The
Master Sword-Maker Legend: [The Kamakura Trilogy] Shimoro
Katsuhiro was a samurai in the
Kamakura-period. His first sword called "Satori-no-hon-maru"(="Enlightenment
of the middle circle" means:
"Sword of Central Core")
or Satori for
short was given to him by his father whom
got it from his father and so it was
passed on for generations from father to
son. In the first
invasion of Mongolia (1274)
he was the commander of Hojo's
army(japanese army). Katsuhiro and his
army lost many soldiers. In a fight
Katsuhiro junctioned his Tomeru Sakki Chi to his Satori. But he
was stabbed in the back from behind and
he was dead instantly, but his sword Satori revived
him immediately after that. It was as if he was
never stabbed. The Mongalian soldier was
planned to cut of his head, but Katsuhiro
blocked the blow with the Satori. The
blade of the Satori broke
because of the blow and because theSatori used its power to revive Katsuhiro. He drew his
short-sword Wakizashi and
defeated his opponent. The Mongolian
fleet was partly blown apart by extreme
storms. The Mongolian army retreated. The
Japanese army and Katsuhiro were able to
go home. Katsuhiro took his broken Satori with
him. His Tomeru
Sakki Chi was
still trapped inside the Satori and it
can only be drawn back when the Satori is in
the state it was when the Tomeru
Sakki Chi was
junctioned. He sweared he would make the Satori reborn.
He learned from a sword-maker how to make
swords. His own best work became his
temporary long-sword. Together with that
sword-maker he tried to make the Satori exactly
as it was when the Tomeru
Sakki Chi was
junctioned to the Satori. That
sword-maker died in 1278 because of a
disease. Katsuhiro searched for a young
attendant to help him restore the Satori,
because his 8-year-old son Shimoro Udeki was too
young. A year later(1279) he found
15-year-old Masamune to help
him. Masamune was really talented. After
2 years they still weren't able to
restore the Satori. In
1281 there was a 2nd Mongolian invasion.
Katsuhiro was sent on duty again. In a
fight he was kicked in his back where he
was stabbed. He suddenly became
paralyzed. He could move everything
accept his legs. He was killed by two
enemy-soldiers.
Katsuhiro
was dead, but the Japanese army won again
by the help of mother nature and her
divine winds. These winds called Kamikaze(=divine
wind) completely destroyed the Mongolian
fleet. Japan won, but Katsuhiro died.
Masamune lost a man who was like a
father. Masamune moved away to a pieceful
place to restore the Satori, like
as if it was his life's work. Also
Masamune needed an attendant, his name
was Muramasa. After
many years of hard work, devotion and
perfection they finally accomplished
reviving the Satori.
Masamune knew the Satori was
revived, because he didn't see a shadow.
Muramasa didn't notice there wasn't a
shadow. The sword Satori is now
known as the sword MASAMUNE. Also
Muramasa created a well known sword, but
it isn't anything like the MASAMUNE.
